About JKS Ireland
The Japan Karate Shotorenmei was formed in 2002 and in this time has become one of the leading Traditional Karate organisations in Ireland today. We are directly affiliated to the JKS Headquarters (www.jks.jp) in Tokyo, Japan.
JKS Ireland is an open, fair and democratic organisation run for the benefit of all members. Our main goal is to promote traditional Shotokan Karate of the highest level, as taught in the JKS Honbu Dojo in Japan. We run regular training seminars with the very best instructors from Japan, such as Masao Kagawa Shuseki Shihan of the JKS, Takashi Yamaguchi Sensei 7th Dan and many more.
Our Technical Director is Dermot O'Keeffe. Dermot Sensei is a 6th Dan JKS and has been training since 1979. In this time,he has competed & achieved great success,at the highest level on the National & International competition circuit. Dermot sensei travels regularly teaching and training with senior JKS Instructors and annually to Japan, to train at the JKS Honbu dojo in Tokyo. Joining JKS Ireland, gives you the opportunity to train with some of Irelands best, most experienced and open minded instructors. We practice Authentic Traditional Japanese Karate as taught in Japan. We run classes in dojos all across Ireland to cater for all age groups,from beginners to advanced, junior to senior. The minimum age is 4 years and there is no maximum. People who train regularly at Karate develop improved motor skills, balance, self awareness, confidence, self defence and above all a great level of fitness. Karate training is widely known as the best form of all round fitness. We believe Karate is for everyone and not just for competition. We do have regular competition for those who are interested.
We are an open organisation and with regular communication between all instructors, our aim is to work hard towards the improvement of our group. We in JKS Ireland encourage all our members to reach their potential through regular training.
Choosing a karate school (Dojo) is a very important first step for every karate student. You need to be sure that you find the place that is right for you and for your family. JKS Ireland provides a Dojo environment where the training is serious but the atmosphere is friendly and supportive. Each student at JKS Ireland is able to progress at his or her own rate. At JKS Ireland, a student’s rate of advancement depends on personal ability and, more importantly, on their level of commitment to training.
