2017 "What a Year"

Farewell 2017, Hello 2018

Wow! What a year! We had our Spring Technical Seminar with Kagawa Shihan, followed by our Annual Open Championships in April, and, we welcomed 2 new clubs to JKS Ireland - Saggart SKC and Ballybay & Culloville SKC. It has been great working with you so far. Oss! Summer saw our Technical Seminar with Dermot Sensei followed by a visit from Okamoto Sensei. Squad training continued throughout the summer and our Squad travelled to Belgium to compete in the 2017 JKS Euro Continental Cup. The Tri-colour 🇮🇪️made the podium on more than one occasion! Great work Martin Sensei & Squad – you did us all proud! ☘️ We were only just back then, and two JKS Ireland members were off again, this time to the 10th WKF World Championship (Juniors, Cadets, & Under 21s) in Tenerife, Spain. Well done Geri Friel (Strabane SKC) & Ali OKeeffe (Swords Karate) for making the 🇮🇪️Karate Ireland (ONAKAI) National Squad! Our Autumn Seminar was with Kanayama Sensei – boy his sessions were tough! 😊, and then we were visited by Matsue Sensei. To close out the year JKS members travelled to Japan 🇯🇵️ for the annual JKS International Seminar. The trip took in training in JKS Headquarters and in Teikyo University were one of our members, Ali OKeeffe graded successfully for Nidan 🥋 Oss! The cultural sights and tastes of Japan were rounded out with attendance at the JKF 45th Japan Cup KARATEDO and the icing on the cake was Ireland being selected to host the 2019 JKS Euro Continental Cup! All this throughout 2017 while members all over the country attended their regular training sessions in their own Clubs week in, week out as well as participating in the many competitions and training events/seminars that now fill the Irish Karate Calendar. Thank you to all the JKS Instructors for the hard work and dedication each week with your Clubs. We would like to thank all our members for their continued support which enables us to host the many Japanese Instructors and enables us run events for our members. Many thanks too, to all our Karate Friends from other groups, who have supported various events during the year. Your support is much appreciated. And finally … See you all next year on the tatami! 🥋👊👊👊🥋OSS!
